What is The Young Dudes Guide to Japan?
Read the above to find out about the creators of this Wiki, and the original site.
THE RULES
(The simple, obvious stuff)
* Do not advertise.
* Do not plagiarise copyrighted material.
* Keep the language at an acceptable level.
* Do not vandalise pages.
* The YDJapanWiki is intended as a resource, not a playground or a place to discuss the Wiki or its members.
* Offenders will be banned from the wiki and action will be taken against their account(s).
* Admin reserves the right to modify or remove any of the Wikis contents.
* Uploaded images must be renamed to contain the page name first. eg. TokyoTrains_Schedule.gif
* For your own good, don't use your own proper e-mail addresses when logging in or else risk the possibility of someone taking credit for your entry.
(And the rest..)
* If a template already exists for say Cities, and you want to make a page about a place in Japan, obey the format of the template.
* Try to keep your entries humurous and positive. Do not slander or say explicitly offensive and negative things about businesses, people and products. If you dislike something and want to have a say about it, we need a solid reason why. For example "Bar Amigo sucks!" is not acceptable. "Bar Amigo is expensive yet tiny and empty." is fair enough. State the truth.
* Like it says on Wikipedia; If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed by others, do not submit it.
(And..)
THE REGULATIONS
* Images must be within 200 pixels wide x 200 pixels high, and must be uploaded to the server, not linked from other sites.
DESIGN GUIDELINES
Bearing in mind that the YDWiki will most likely be used for all manner of information, it would be difficult to lay down a set of specific layout structure, and as such, the team behind the Wiki are mostly flexible in regards to page presentation. As long as you keep it neat and tidy, free from offensive-sized fonts and/or odd page margins or alignment. Use your common sense and your page won't be terminated.
As development goes, we are compiling some concensus for other templates, but for the time being it's pretty much a no-mans land. Don't panic if your page do
If you are looking to create a new page, first, use the search engine to see if one already exists.
Uploaded images must be 120 pixels wide x 80 pixels high for small images, or ??? for larger images.
TEMPLATES
Currently we have templates for some particular items. Choose not to adhere to their framework at your peril!
TIPS ON YDJAPANWIKI DESIGN
Images - To include an image, wrap the source URL of the image in brackets, like this [http://ydjapanwiki.pbwiki.com/f/NAMEOFYOURIMAGE].
To make say, an image aligned with some text (perfect for reviewing a bar or a club), like so:
| TEXT ALIGNED SMARTLY TO IMAGE- See how the image fits nicely alongside the text to the left, and doesn't have text wrapping around it? | |
It is done by using the | command three times. Once before the text block, then another after the text block and before the image, and finally once more after the image.
|**TEXT ALIGNED SMARTLY TO IMAGE**- See how the image fits nicely alongside the text to the left, and doesn't have text wrapping around it?|[http://ydjapanwiki.pbwiki.com/f/canal.jpg]|
Finally, be careful to keep it all compact together, as YDJapanWiki is sensitive to extra spaces and new lines.
For example type with this syntax :-
|**TEXT ALIGNED SMARTLY TO IMAGE**-
See how the image fits nicely alongside the text to the left, and doesn't have text wrapping around it?|
[http://ydjapanwiki.pbwiki.com/f/canal.jpg]|
You you'll end up with this!
|TEXT ALIGNED SMARTLY TO IMAGE-
See how the image fits nicely alongside the text to the left, and doesn't have text wrapping around it?|
|
OK?
